from a memoir by Duane E. McIntosh:

William married Mary Sowell who passed away after having one child, Elizabeth. He thenmarried Margaret Smith in 1840. Margaret was born in 1825, and died in 1898, she isburied in Bensalem cemetery west of Carthage.

William was a blacksmith by trade, repairing and maintaining farm tools in the area. Healso owned a farm which he worked with the family and two slavewomen. He was said (by hisson Alexander) "a good peaceable man in the community, always attending to his own business, taking no part whatever in neighborhood disputes. He was a strict and moral man, had no bad habits, and never used profane language, nor would he allow any of his familyto use it...."
